Karan: Guess what?
Rhea: Who’s the latest girl?
Karan: Wait, what…? NO! My mom just lent me her car for the weekend. Why don’t we go on a road trip?
Divya: Um, no. I have a life, unlike some people.
Karan: Clearly not. You never take time off work! And it’s been so long since the three of us did something together.
Rhea: (sigh) Fiiiiiine. But only if we’re going to Gokarna!
Karan: Wow, that escalated quickly! But, I’m game.
Divya: Hold up, do I have a say in this?
Rhea and Karan: No, not really.
And that’s how they ruined their friendship. Just kidding! But, to be honest, these buddies didn’t know what they were getting themselves into. They thought this was going to be the trip of a lifetime, and started dreaming about all the things they would do there—to them, it was going to be like ‘The Hangover Part 4’.
But not even an hour has passed by since they hit the road, and they’ve already started bickering.
Karan: I can’t wait to go to the beach!
Divya: Me too! When are we trekking? I came all prepared!—I brought my water bottle, my torch, a mosquito repellant, an extra hairband, sanitizer, a foldable tent, trekking shoes, a sleeping bag…
Rhea: Trek? What trek? No one told me anything about it! I’ve only packed my flip flops and a swimsuit.
Divya: OMG! WHAT? Who packs like that? Is that what you plan on wearing for the next three days?
Karan: I get that you two are polar opposites, but please try to get along!
Oops! Things seem to be going downhill real quick, and they’ve started turning against each other. Clearly, Divya, “The Meticulous”; Rhea, “The Happy-go-Lucky”; and Karan, “The Moderator” have completely different ‘travel personalities’. It’s important to remind ourselves that not everyone thinks exactly the way we do. No road trip, cruise, safari, or travel plan has ever gone completely smooth. I mean, even the Titanic hit an iceberg! And that’s why, when on a road trip, it’s important to set our differences aside, and accept each other, because We Are All Mad Here!
The next day,
Divya: Can someone please carry this bottle?
Rhea: Nope. You carry the bottle because this trek was your idea.
Divya: So? Karan and I carried it the whole time! It’s your turn now.
Karan: Umm guys, this bottle is almost empty. Who finished it? We were supposed to ration this.
Divya: Well, since I was carrying it most of the time, I drank most of it.
Rhea: What? That makes no sense! We’re all walking in this stupid forest because “you” wanted to trek! And now I’m tired, I’m THIRSTY, and I’m cranky, and I CANNOT handle your constant whining!
Karan: Can we all please stop shouting? Rhea, go ahead and finish the water. The trek is almost done anyway. I’m sure there will be more shops ahead.
Wow, did they just fight over a water bottle?! Thanks to the talented moderator Karan, the water bottle saga met its end quickly. To be honest, during a road trip, we will be forced to sit through periods of silence, miscommunication, exhaustion, and sleepless nights. So, it’s important to communicate our own needs while keeping in mind the needs of our travel buddies’ as well. Remember, the key to a smooth travel experience is EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.
In the evening, on the ride back home,
Karan: Woah, this is the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen!
Divya: I agree… you know what, I’m actually having a lot of fun! I’ve been so stressed lately, and I really needed this.
Rhea: Me too. I’m sorry for all the fights. You know I love you, right?
Divya: Hey, I don’t even remember that anymore; and yes, I love you, too.
Karan: Aww, you guys. GET A ROOM!
Looks like our little story has a happy ending after all. The three buddies shared a deep and heartfelt moment that couldn’t have happened otherwise. All those silly arguments, fights, and misunderstandings were long forgotten. The trip brought them so much closer than before. They made beautiful memories they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives… that’s the magic of a road trip.
So, it’s time for y’all to pack your bags, grab some friends, and go on a road trip! Coz trust me, it’s going to change your lives!
